Royal Caribbean Still Scheduled to Return to Labadee in October
by Dori Saltzman /Despite the U.S. State Department renewing its Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory for Haiti, Royal Caribbean remains on track to return to its private Haitian island of Labadee next month.
“The safety and security of our guests, crew, and communities we visit are our top priority. Our Global Security and Intel Team has been closely monitoring the evolving situation in Haiti. We have no further changes to our sailings at this time and are preparing for our return to Labadee in October 2024,” a Royal Caribbean spokesperson told TMR in a statement this week.
Adventure of the Seas will be the first ship to return to the port on Oct. 8 since this past spring. Other ships scheduled to stop in Labadee in Oct. are Freedom of the Seas and Independence of the Seas.
Haiti has been under the U.S. State Department’s highest travel warning since last March, after more than 4,500 inmates escaped the country’s two largest prisons and set off a crime wave that hasn’t yet abated.
Haiti is just one of a few countries that the U.S. warns its citizens not to travel to. Others currently on the Level 4: Do Not Travel list including Russia, Iraq, Ukraine, Libya, and Lebanon.
