Maui Named Top Small Destination In The U.S.

Maui, known for its natural scenic beauty and seemingly unlimited adventure opportunities, was ranked as the number-one small tourism destination in the United States by marketing and development firm Resonance.

The 2016 U.S. Tourism Quality Index looked at 40 small destinations in the United States (places that attract fewer than six million visitors per year). Rankings were based on hundreds of thousands of reviews on social media channels.

Maui received the most “very good” and “excellent” ratings. Hawaii’s second largest island is known for its surf schools, diving adventures and tours of its dormant volcano, Haleakala, and Haleakala National Park.

Rounding out the top five are Kauai Island, HI; Omaha, NE; Reno, NV; and Tulsa, OK.
