G Adventures Offers “Reward” for Finding Colosseum Vandals
by Dori Saltzman /G Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip is offering a “reward trip” to whoever helps located the infamous “Ivan + Haley.”
Ivan, last name unknown, was caught carving his name and his presumed girlfriend’s name into the almost 2,000-year-old Colosseum, igniting a firestorm of criticism. Now, Poon Tip wants to invite the couple – and the person who helps identify them – to travel with him to the inaugural G Adventure community summit to understand how to be more conscious travelers.
“While it’s shocking to see anyone deface an ancient landmark like the Colosseum, it’s not as uncommon as many would think,” he said.
He added that while filming his documentary, “The Last Tourist,” they captured footage of tourists behaving badly, from spray painting landmarks to bragging about destroying 6,000-year-old rock formations.
“Unfortunately, these travelers often suspend the values they abide by at home the moment they step on a plane, and it’s this mindset that needs to change… Rather than condemning Ivan and Haley, I’m launching an appeal to find them, and to invite them to GX, G Adventure’s inaugural annual community travel summit, which is taking place in September in Peru.”
Information regarding the whereabouts of Ivan and Haley can be emailed to media@gadventures.com.
