Swoop Adds New Non-Stop Flights to Cuba
by Daniel McCarthy /Ultra-low-cost Canadian carrier Swoop is expanding its 2023 winter schedule.
Starting on Jan. 11, 2023, Swoop will kick off new seasonal, non-stop service between Toronto Pearson and Varadero Airport, the second largest airport in Cuba. Swoop will fly that route three times weekly.
“We’re thrilled to be announcing an expansion in the Caribbean, adding Varadero to our growing list of vacation destinations,” said Tia McGrath, Leader, Distribution and Sales for Swoop. “Cuba tops the list for Ontarians seeking an affordable beach getaway and we’re proud to reaffirm our commitment to the region with more ultra-convenient and ultra-low fares.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Swoop flights to Cuba, we are excited with this new partnership which means more capacity to Cuba from Canada. In this price-sensitive market, Swoop’s ultra-low-cost structure will make it easier for Canadians this winter to enjoy beautiful Cuba” said Lessner Gomes, Director of the Cuba Tourist Board
At the same time, the carrier is restarting some of its other popular flights, including London, Ontario to Cancun, which restarts on Dec. 3, and London to Orlando, starting on Dec. 4. Other routes that Swoop will again fly include Toronto and Hamilton to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, which will restart the second week of December.
Swoop, which is owned by WestJet, has been rapidly expanding ever since it was launched just over four years ago. Bert van der Stege, Swoop’s head of commercial and finance, spoke to TMR earlier this year and said that travelers should expect Swoop to continue that rapid expansion, both inside and outside Canada.
