Universal Orlando Sets Opening Date For Volcano Bay

by Jessica Montevago  February 10, 2017

Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay “radically-innovative water theme park” will open May 25.

At the center of the 30-acre park will be Florida’s first “aqua coaster.” The ride will take riders through twists and turns of the 200-foot volcano’s interior, before being plummeting down a waterfall. The Krakatau Aqua Coaster uses linear induction motor technology, the first water ride to do so, which launches the canoe uphill before sending riders into a downhill plunge.

When it opens, Volcano Bay will have 18 other attractions, including a multi-directional wave pool with sandy beaches, a winding river, raft rides and body slides. The property will also feature resort amenities, such as concierge locations and lockers, restaurants and bars with signature food and beverage options.

Universal Orlando also gave travel agents and guests a sneak peek at its latest technological innovation, the TapuTapu wearable.

The device is designed to make guests’ experience hassle-free, eliminating the need to wait in long lines. The TapuTapu alerts guests when it’s time to head to the attraction and provides a “tap-to-play” feature, allowing park goers to control special effects like shooting water cannons at Kopiko Wai Winding River and illuminating images inside the volcano’s hidden caves. Guests receive the TapuTapu wearable upon arrival at no extra cost.

Travel professionals can find more information on Universal’s travel agent portal. Universal Orlando Resort offers agents 10% commission on packages that include accommodations and theme-park admission, and up to 40% off at Universal hotels for their personal vacations.
