AA Cancels Airberlin Code-Sharing Agreement
by Michele McDonaldAmerican Airlines will end its code-sharing agreement with Airberlin on March 26. However, its interline and reciprocal frequent-flyer agreements will remain in place. The carriers have been sharing codes for 17 years.
The move comes as a blow to struggling Airberlin, which is planning a significant expansion in the United States beginning in May. It will operate new Dusseldorf-Orlando and Berlin Tegel routes and boost Berlin Tegel-Los Angeles service to three weekly flights.
The seasonal Berlin Tegel-Miami service will become year-round, and the carrier will increase frequencies from Dusseldorf to Boston, San Francisco and New York Kennedy.
