A&K Travel Group has announced the opening date of Kitirua Plains Lodge, a new A&K Sanctuary property in Kenya’s Amboseli region.
A&K Sanctuary is a collection of luxury safari camps and lodges across Eastern and Southern Africa, and riverboats in Egypt and Peru. Part of A&K Travel Group, the portfolio features curated accommodations that pair authentic and immersive travel experiences with a destination’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Scheduled to open on June 1, 2026, Kitirua Plains Lodge is set on a 128-acre private concession in the heart of elephant country. Bordering Amboseli National Park, guests will enjoy uninterrupted views of wildlife, set against Mount Kilimanjaro on the horizon.

The property will feature 13 standalone accommodations, including 11 suites and two two-bedroom units, designed to maximize privacy and views across the surrounding plains. Elevated structures, such as a viewing area topped by a private dining space, ensure that guests have an incredible vantage point to take in the surrounding views, while raised wooden pathways provide easy access to travel between buildings without interrupting the immersive, wilderness-forward atmosphere.
The new lodge marks A&K’s return to Amboseli, where founder Geoffrey Kent brought his first safari clients in 1962. Kitirua Plains Lodge aims to honor the company’s legacy while also innovating the luxury safari space, grounded in principles of sustainability and community.
Described by the tour operator as “a bold departure from traditional safari architecture,” the property was built with sustainability in mind, using locally sourced materials and with an organic, indigenous-inspired design. This includes features such as hand-woven sisal grass ceilings and plaster on the walls made with soil on site. The effect is a man-made property that feels like an extension of the surrounding landscape.
Kitirua Plains Lodge was designed in partnership with Luxury Frontiers, an architecture firm that specializes in eco-tourism and conservation-led luxury. The company also helped create A&K Sanctuary’s Gorilla Forest Lodge in Uganda and Baines’ Lodge in Botswana, which were added to the collection in 2025.
