Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants to Enter the Asia Market
by Jessica Montevago /U.K.-based InterContinental Hotels Group has signed three management agreements to bring its Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand to Asia.
Kimpton will make its debut in Southeast Asia in 2019 with the 50-villa Kimtpon Bali. In Greater China, the Kimpton Shanghai Jing’an will offer 150 guestrooms and 120 villas. In Haitang Bay in Sanya, Hainan Province, the 251-room Kimpton Resort Sanya Haitang Bay will be built on a beachfront site. Both hotels will open in 2021.
Kimpton’s expansion into Asia comes just as the brand opened its first property in Europe. The 274-room Kimpton De Witt opened in Amsterdam’s Palace Quarter Neighborhood in May. The company also plans to open a hotel in Paris in 2020.
IHG also said it plans to bring its health and wellness brand Even Hotels to China.
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants was acquired in 2015 by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). The luxury boutique chain currently operates over 60 hotels and 70 plus restaurants, bars and lounges in the U.S., Caribbean, and Europe.
