The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) wants travel advisors to know that registration is open for its annual Legislative Day, which takes place this year on April 20 and 21.
Legislative Day is the Super Bowl of ASTA’s advocacy season—the only time of year when the U.S. travel trade gathers on Capitol Hill to demonstrate its full might and impact to legislators. Many of these lawmakers are making decisions and voting on matters that could drastically impact travel advisor businesses.
The event includes a training session to teach participants how to talk to lawmakers, followed by scheduled meetings with congressional offices. These one-on-one conversations give advisors the chance to communicate exactly why specific policies matter to their bottom lines.
The goal for ASTA, and the U.S. travel trade as a whole, is to secure representation from all 50 states and Washington, D.C. A lack of full representation means that state-specific issues—such as last year’s Nebraska sales tax bill—may not receive the time or attention they deserve.
Currently, ASTA is looking for representatives from 30 states and Washington, D.C. The following states still lack registered attendees:
Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
