Travel Industry Solutions has announced that former Nexion Travel Group president Mike Foster has joined the tech solutions company as director of strategic partners and shareholder.
Based in Ontario, Foster is a respected industry veteran with more than 45 years of experience in the travel advisor industry. His travel career began in 1981 when he was hired to open UNIGLOBE Instant Travel, which he would eventually own. After being acquired by Nexion Travel Group, the company was renamed Nexion Travel Group-Canada. Foster served as Nexion Canada’s president from 2013 until his retirement in 2024.
Travel Industry Solutions, which offers a legal-tech and payments-risk platform designed for travel advisors, hired Foster to support its expansion into Canada following a recent soft launch, tapping his decades of experience and deep relationships in the Canadian travel trade.
As Director of Strategic Partners and a shareholder, Foster will help grow TIS’s presence in Canada while also contributing to broader global strategic initiatives. His role includes working closely with host agencies, consortia, suppliers, and advisors to support education and consistent operational standards as the company scales.
“Mike has believed in what we do from day one,” said Sheila Folk, CEO and founder of Travel Industry Solutions. “He understands how travel businesses operate in the real world, and he knows what’s missing, including practical tools that help advisors, hosts, suppliers, and insurance partners operate more professionally and protect their businesses, while saving time and money. As we expand in Canada, his leadership and relationships will be a major advantage.”
Although retired from day-to-day operations, Foster remains active in the industry. He continues to operate as an independent travel advisor, and serves as an industry consultant and writer, and sits on the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) board.
“What Travel Industry Solutions has built is needed across the travel industry,” said Foster. “Travel professionals are expected to operate at a higher standard than ever, with more complexity, more liability exposure, and more moving parts. TIS delivers the kind of real, usable tools that raise professionalism, strengthen protection, and create meaningful cost savings for travel advisors and the businesses that support them. I’m excited to help expand TIS in Canada and contribute to the company’s long-term global growth.”
