Norwegian Cruise Line Replaces All 2024 Venice Calls with Other Ports

Norwegian Cruise Line Replaces All 2024 Venice Calls with Other Ports

Norwegian Cruise Line will no longer offer itineraries that include a port of call in Venice. Instead, in 2024 the line will either dock at Ravenna, which is a little bit more than two hours away, or a port in Croatia. The itineraries in 2025 will replace calls to Venice with a day at sea until a new port is confirmed, based upon availability.

According to a letter sent to agency members of the cruise line’s President’s Club, the decision is related to the ban on large ships in the Venice Lagoon.

“… large cruise ships calling to Venice are required to anchor outside of the lagoon and utilize tender boats to access the Port of Venice. While we have made every effort possible to maintain these calls to Venice, the tender operation and overall experience this provides our guests has fallen short of the standard we aim to deliver,” the line wrote.

“We recognize that Venice is one of the world’s greatest destinations, cherished by both our guests and crew, and as such acknowledge the inconvenience and frustration this disruption may cause. We appreciate the understanding of our loyal guests and travel agent partners,” a spokesperson for NCL further told Travel Market Report.

For 2024, the change applies to several sailings onboard Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Dawn.

The following sail dates will see Venice replaced with Ravenna: May 27; June 5, 24; July 3, 22, 31; Aug. 28; Sept. 16, 25; and Oct. 14, 23.
