American Airlines Cuts 21 Routes Out of Austin, Texas
by Daniel McCarthy /American Airlines is slashing its schedule out of Austin, Texas.
American announced this week that it would drop 21 routes out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport next year, including nonstops to Albuquerque, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Memphis, Montego Bay, Punta Cana, Tampa, and Washington Dulles. The 21 cuts represent half of American’s total schedule out of Austin.
The airline will continue to serve its hubs out of the Texas airport, including Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles International, and New York JFK, but is severely reducing its overall schedule.
American said this week that Austin remains an important part of its network, but that it is continuously evaluating it schedule. The airline has boosted Austin service heavily in recent years, and while the news this week effectively rolls back a few years of growth, American is still offering 53% more daily seats out of Austin than it did in 2019.
