South Congress Hotel will become The Standard, Austin after renovations that will begin this summer and complete by spring 2027.
Hyatt is bringing one of its popular lifestyle hotel brands, The Standard, to Austin, Texas, with plans to convert South Congress Hotel, an existing boutique property in the city.
The Standard, Austin, will be the brand’s first new U.S. opening in more than 10 years when it opens in spring 2027. It will join early U.S. staples in New York City – The Standard, High Line and The Standard, East Village – as well as global newcomers in London, Brussels, and Ibiza. The Standard also has hotels opening later this year in Lisbon and Mexico City.
“I have always loved the South Congress Hotel and have long envisioned its potential to be The Standard, Austin,” said Amar Lalvani, president and creative director of Hyatt’s Lifestyle Group. “We’ve assembled an incredible team of Austin-based friends and collaborators who will both honor the property’s legacy and breathe new life into it. Austin deserves a hotel that reflects the cultural capital it has always been and the world-class city it has become.”
In summer 2026, the South Congress Hotel will close for renovations, and more announcements on its transformation are forthcoming. The property is set to be a gathering space for guests and locals alike with social wellness experiences, outdoor spaces, cafes, restaurants and bars, and a rooftop pool.
