Delta Air Lines will return to John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California, with nonstop service to New York’s JFK International (JFK) starting May 7.
Delta last operated this route in early 2019. The reinstated service will run six days a week—excluding Saturdays—on a Boeing 757-200 aircraft. This marks the debut of the premium Delta One cabin on the SNA–JFK route, alongside Delta Comfort and Delta Main cabins.
John Wayne is technically located in an unincorporated area of Orange County, surrounded by Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Irvine, and Newport Beach. Less than 12 million passengers annually fly from the airport, far less than the more than 75 million that fly from Los Angeles International (LAX), which is located about 40 miles northwest of John Wayne.
When the service starts, Delta won’t be the only carrier flying between the two cities. American Airlines also connects JFK and SNA, and United flies from Newark Liberty (EWR), its primary NYC hub, into SNA.
