Delta Partners with Uber: SkyMiles Members Can Now Earn Points on Rides and Deliveries
by Daniel McCarthy /At the same time Delta Air Lines rolled out new artificial intelligence technology as part of its CES showcase in Las Vegas this week, the airline announced a partnership with Uber that will allow SkyMiles members to connect their Uber accounts to the Delta loyalty program.
Starting this spring, Delta will allow SkyMiles members to earn points when booking travel through Uber. SkyMiles members will earn one mile per dollar spent on UberX rides to and from airports, two miles per dollar on premium rides, and three miles per dollar on Uber Reserve rides.
The partnership also enables SkyMiles members to earn one mile per dollar spent on Uber Eats and grocery orders.
According to the companies, more than 15% of all Uber rides either begin or end at an airport, making it a natural partnership. The goal, according to Delta CEO Ed Bastian, is to connect Delta to its flyers door-to-door and reward that connection with miles.
Delta says more details on the partnership, including an exact launch date, will be available in the coming weeks. The airline has already opened a waitlist for the first SkyMiles accounts to link to Uber.
Delta has had a similar partnership with Lyft since February 2018, allowing members to earn miles for airport rides through that platform. However, the partnership with Uber connects Delta to a larger pool of travelers, as Uber’s user base is bigger. According to Bloomberg Second Measure, Uber accounted for about 75% of U.S. rideshare market spending in 2024, significantly outpacing Lyft.
