Sabre Recovers After System Outage

An outage of a pricing engine on Sabre’s network disrupted booking functionality on a number of U.S. airlines on Monday night.

The disruption happened at around 6 p.m. on Monday. Problems with Sabre’s pricing system, which manages fares and shows available seats for those managing a reservation, made it impossible for travel agents and travelers online to book with U.S. airline partners Southwest, Virgin America and JetBlue.

JetBlue also said that the outage prevented customers from booking on its mobile app.

According to Sabre, the outage has been resolved and the systems are now back to functioning correctly.

Southwest and Virgin also tweeted that its domestic booking functionality on their websites were back up and running.

It’s not the first time airlines lost functionally because of computer problems this year.

Delta Air Lines’ August outage had a negative impact of about $100 million on revenue for the month. The outage, caused by a power control module failure in its Atlanta data center early on Aug.8, caused three days of canceled flights and delays throughout its network.

And Southwest was plagued by similar problems in July—almost 700 flights were canceled in one day after a computer issue brought down its website and check-in systems.
