Update April 10:

According to the latest from FlightAware, as of 8 a.m. EST on Friday morning, more than 30% of flights scheduled from both Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC), mostly on Lufthansa, have been cancelled. About the same number of inbound flights at those two airports have also been scrapped.

Travelers should check their flight with Lufthansa before heading to either airport.

The union representing Lufthansa flight attendants is readying to strike on Friday, April 10, which could have a major impact on the day’s travel.

The strike, scheduled from 12:01 AM to 10:00 PM local time, is expected to impact all Lufthansa and Lufthansa CityLine departures from Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC). Flights operated by Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, SWISS, Air Dolomiti, Discover Airlines, Edelweiss, and Lufthansa City Airlines will not be affected.

In a message to travel partners on Thursday, Lufthansa said that “significant” flight cancellations are expected, and most have already been loaded into booking systems as of Thursday afternoon. According to FlightAware, close to 40 Frankfurt flights have been cancelled on Thursday in preparation for the strike, and another 30 in Munich. Both airports are also experiencing higher-than-normal delays.

Lufthansa has issued a goodwill policy for travelers whose flights are not yet canceled to rebook or get a refund with a new travel date through April 17. It is also allowing travelers within Germany whose flights are canceled to exchange their ticket for a Deutsche Bahn train ticket free of charge via the Lufthansa website or app.
