Princess Cruises has officially taken delivery of Star Princess, the line’s second Sphere-Class ship, during a celebratory handover ceremony at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The milestone marks the 17th ship in the Princess fleet, which sails to destinations around the globe.
The ceremony signifies the official transfer of the ship from Fincantieri to Princess, marking the completion of construction and the beginning of final preparations ahead of its inaugural sailings. Now staffed with 1,600 crew preparing to welcome its first guests, Star Princess will depart for Barcelona to begin her inaugural sailing—a 11-day Western Mediterranean voyage departing October 4, 2025.
“Today is a proud moment for Princess as we welcome the new Star Princess to our incredible fleet,” said Gus Antorcha, Princess Cruises President. “This remarkable vessel is a testament to the innovation and craftsmanship of our long-standing partners at Fincantieri, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to the shipbuilding team for bringing our newest ship to life.”
The 177,800-ton ship accommodates 4,300 guests and is a sister ship to the award-winning Sun Princess. Highlights include more than 30 dining and bar venues, innovative entertainment, and The Sanctuary Collection, an exclusive luxury retreat featuring a private restaurant, adults-only pool deck, and curated amenities.
With over 1,500 balcony staterooms, Star Princess also introduces standout venues such as The Dome, a next-generation relaxation and entertainment space; The Arena, Princess’ most technologically advanced theatre; The Piazza, a dramatic architectural centerpiece with floor-to-ceiling ocean views; and Spellbound by Magic Castle, a one-of-a-kind speakeasy experience in partnership with Hollywood’s iconic Magic Castle™.
Star Princess will debut in the Mediterranean this fall before repositioning to Ft. Lauderdale for a season of Caribbean sailings starting November 7, 2025. She will then transit the Panama Canal to launch her first Alaska season in summer 2026.
