A new survey released by Nexion Travel Group ahead of International Women’s Day March 8, finds women continue to play a dominant role in the travel industry, both as travel advisors and as the primary decision-makers purchasing travel.
The survey polled members of Nexion’s Circle of Excellence, MillionAir and Advisory Board, groups that represent some of the company’s top-performing travel advisors.
The results highlight how strongly women shape the industry today. 90 percent of respondents identified as women, reflecting the significant female presence among successful travel advisors.
That influence also extends across agency teams. Among respondents, including male advisors, 70 percent reported their agencies are made up of at least 76 percent women, including employees and independent contractors.
The findings underscore how women are not only building travel businesses but also creating employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for other women within the industry.
For many advisors surveyed, entering the travel business was a purposeful entrepreneurial move rather than a secondary career. The top reasons cited for launching a travel agency included the opportunity to travel, the ability to run their own business and the flexibility to achieve better work–life balance.
Women are also highly influential on the consumer side of the travel market. Advisors reported that 64 percent of their clients are women who make travel decisions on behalf of others, highlighting the substantial purchasing power women hold in the sector.
“It is not surprising to see so many of our top producers are women or that their agencies are powered by women,” said Jackie Friedman, CTC, VTA, President of Nexion Travel Group. “What’s especially exciting is how these advisors are building successful businesses while cultivating strong female client bases and creating agencies where women can thrive professionally and economically.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it’s clear that travel continues to be powered by women.”
