More Than Anything, TTAND is a Community: Agents

More Than Anything, TTAND is a Community: Agents

Celebrating ACV’s 50th anniversary at the opening night dinner.

The growth of home based agents in Canada is undeniable. And these agents are no longer mostly experienced agents who have worked in an agency for two decades. The industry is attracting many new agents to the industry who are home based from the get go.

This would explain the continued growth of host agencies like The Travel Agent Next Door. The company recently held its annual conference in the Riviera Maya, Mexico with a record number of attendees.

What was interesting is that the conference brought together a dynamic blend of agent experience:

· 30% were first-time attendees

· Of those, two-thirds were brand new to the industry

· The remainder included a wide range from seasoned pros with 10–30+ years to rising stars in their first few years

This combination contributed to a lively dynamic at the conference, blending fresh perspectives with seasoned insights.

“What I observed, more than anything, was a great sense of community among our agent partners that they all value highly,” said Jeff Element, TTAND COO.

What are agents seeking at a conference?

Agents at the conference were given a brief survey to gain insight as to why the attend and what they are seeking from a conference.

From newcomers to long-timers, agents cited networking, supplier engagement and personal development as the top reasons for attending.

“To refuel and reset my personal goals for where I want my business to be.” – Joni Davis, a TTAND Primary Agent since 2019

“I knew who I wanted to speak with and had very focused questions… I truly feel like I have set plans in motion that will help me grow my business.” – Karen Desanti, TTAND agent, new to the industry

Meeting Suppliers face to face

Across the board, the presence of suppliers was considered indispensable — not just for product knowledge, but for building relationships.

“Business is built on relationships, and these face-to-face connections… offer that personal element that simply cannot be created via Zoom or email.” – Veronica Van Cooten, TTAND New Agent

“Meeting our suppliers in person is an amazing opportunity, especially as independent consultants working from home.” – Nancy Katsof, Industry Veteran

“You get one-on-one time… plan your year – face to face!” – Scott Waldron, 30-year veteran, Gravitate Travel

Feeling of family

Beyond business, the strongest takeaway from most attendees was a sense of belonging.

“My biggest takeaway was the feeling of family. I felt more welcomed and appreciated than I ever felt at the brick and mortar agency I came from.” – Rita Lee, Primary Agent, TTAND newcomer

“WIN, WIN, WIN. I learned that we are ALL in this together, providing support and guidance to grow at a pace that is comfortable.” – Alida Lio, New Agent

“It allows you to directly engage and find out how suppliers can help your business grow. Building those relationships is ultimately the most priceless asset you will have in the industry.” – Ola Honeysett, 14-year industry veteran.
