Historic Storm Dubbed ‘Bomb Cyclone’ to Slam Iceland and U.K.
One of the strongest storms on record in the North Atlantic is expected to batter Iceland Wednesday with heavy rain and hurricane-force winds. Experts predict 90 to 100 mile per hour or stronger winds and 35-40 foot swells at sea.
Dubbed a “freak” storm, the low pressure system is rapidly intensifying and expected to bring a surge of warm air to the North Pole – increasing temperatures by 50 degrees.
The storm is also forecasted to hit the United Kingdom late Tuesday into Wednesday. The UK Met Office issued a national severe weather alert, noting “a swathe of gale and severe gale force winds” are expected across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland. Parts of England, Scotland, and Wales are already reeling from flooding that occurred over the weekend.
