Meliá Nassau Beach, Never Closed During Nearby Baha Mar Development, Undergoes $19 Million Renovation

Meliá Nassau Beach, Never Closed During Nearby Baha Mar Development, Undergoes $19 Million Renovation

Meliá Nassau Beach has recently undergone a $19 million renovation with more improvements to come.

While recent headlines are all about the long-awaited partial opening of the controversial Baha Mar resort complex on Nassau in the Bahamas, the Meliá Nassau Beach, in close proximity to the project, has quietly kept operating and never closed. Since its takeover by Meliá from Sheraton in 2013, it has converted to a full all-inclusive and has recently undergone a $19 million renovation with more improvements to come.

Guests at the Meliá can enjoy what has opened at the 1,000-acre Baha Mar including the casino, tennis courts and Jack Nicklaus Golf Course. Shuttle service is provided to and from Meliá for guests to enjoy off-site amenities at Baha Mar. As more of Baha Mar is completed, including several hotels, according to LaToya Moxey, senior sales and marketing manager, “we will continue building on our relationship with Baha Mar.”

Located on Cable Beach, the 694-room Meliá recently debuted 102 rooms as part of The Level, the brand’s elevated service concept. Guests at The Level, who pay a premium that depends on the night and the room, include: pre-arrival concierge assistance, reserved beach, concierge service, priority booking for a la carte restaurants and more. The Level guestrooms feature: 50” smart televisions, a pillow menu, and outdoor seating for those rooms that include patios and balconies.

Additional renovations include a newly refurbished 24-hour fitness center that spans about 1,500 square feet with an additional 9,000 square feet of outdoor training space.

A stage for live entertainment and activities was built adjacent to the adults-only pool to cater to couples and adult groups. At The Level’s reserved beach, seating options were enhanced to include Balinese beds, beach swings and hammocks.

These updates follow the transformation of the property’s food and beverage concepts, resulting in a total of seven dining venues and four bars. All are available as part of the all-inclusive rate except Black Angus, a steakhouse that is open to the public.

There will be additional refurbishments through 2017, including an enhancement of the Kid’s Club with the addition of an outdoor playground. All 54 rooms on the ground floor of the property will cater to families with the addition of bunk beds; walkout terraces facing the pool; and new, kid-friendly amenities.

Said Moxey, “We are becoming a true family-friendly all-inclusive, which sets us apart from our competitors on Nassau.”

Meliá PRO, the brand’s agent program, allows travel professionals to book their clients at any Meliá Hotels International property in the world. The program features a booking engine and competitive rates. The brand offers 16% commission on resort bookings and 12% commission on city hotels to Melia PRO members.

Another feature of Meliá PRO is the loyalty platform, Meliá PRO Rewards, which offers exclusive rates and benefits for agents at any of the company’s portfolio of over 370 hotels worldwide. Agents can enroll in MeliáPro-Training to learn more about the company via a user-friendly virtual library of extensive brand data.
