Sandals to Open a Beaches Resort in the Bahamas

Sandals Resorts International’s fourth Beaches Resort is coming to the Bahamas.

As Sandals expands the family-oriented resort brand, Beaches Exuma, the first in the Bahamas, joins three existing Beaches in Turks & Caicos, Negril, and Ocho Rios. To make the new all-inclusive resort possible, Sandals will sunset Sandals Emerald Bay, renovate it, and reopen it as Beaches Exuma.

“Exuma was made for families and with more than 6,000 feet of shoreline, the new Beaches Exuma will be a gateway to discovering the incomparable beauty of this part of the Bahamas,” said Adam Stewart, executive chairman of Sandals Resorts International. “At the core of every great family vacation is the creation of memories so magical they last a lifetime.”

Beaches Exuma will mix elements of the existing resort with new, updated amenities for families to enjoy. The Red Lane Spa and access to the 18-hole Emerald Bay golf course will remain. Meanwhile, guest rooms will be remodeled, and the resort will have a more varied array of multi-bedroom villas, suites and connecting rooms. The property’s 12 restaurants will all also be renovated.

For families, the resort will have a brand-new Kids Camp, splash deck, and opportunities for adventure activities.

The Bahamas’ Minister of Tourism and Aviation Chester Cooper praised the news of the property’s redevelopment and rebranding.

“Sandals has been a trusted partner with The Bahamas for many years,” he said. “As we saw with the redevelopment of Sandals Royal Bahamian on New Providence nearly three years ago, when they invest in a property, it flourishes. We will miss the Sandals Emerald Bay, but we welcome Beaches Exuma, which will be an expanded endeavor that caters to more visitors and employs more Bahamians.”

Sandals Emerald Bay will close on Aug. 15, 2024, and construction on the new resort will begin in the fall. Customers with effected reservations will be notified and offered rebooking options at other Sandals resorts with special benefits.
