CIE Tours has announced the expansion of its Spain portfolio with a new 2027 tour: Northern Spain & Portugal.
The 11- or 12-day itinerary takes travelers from Madrid to Lisbon, exploring the local wine and cuisine, storied history, inspiring architecture, the ancient Camino de Santiago, and the soulful sounds of Fado. The route travels through Spain’s Rioja wine region, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, and Santiago de Compostela before crossing into Portugal, with stops in Porto, Óbidos, and Lisbon. The 12-day version includes an additional day of independent sightseeing in Lisbon via a hop-on/hop-off bus.
Highlights from the new tour include a Rioja winery visit and tasting lunch, a walking tour of the Basque Old Town, a scenic Douro river cruise, and a traditional moliceiro boat through Aveiro Canal, also known as “Portugal’s Venice.”
Departures for Northern Spain & Portugal run from February through December 2027. The itinerary runs both in the classic travel style and as a small group tour.
CIE Tours introduced a Spain tour in 2025, “Best of Spain.” Currently, the tour operator offers packaged vacations in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, Italy, Iceland, and Spain and Portugal.
“For more than 90 years, CIE Tours has focused on helping travelers experience the local culture, traditions, and food that make a destination memorable,” said Stephen Cotter, managing director of CIE Tours. “With our new Northern Spain & Portugal tour, we’re delighted to give guests the opportunity to experience some of the Iberian Peninsula’s most distinctive regions, while expanding into Portugal for the first time in CIE Tours history.”
