Some new capabilities rolling out in technology platform Tern will let users see and then collect unpaid supplier commissions.
Tern today added the ability for agencies to generate supplier invoices directly within the platform, track unpaid balances, and then streamline email follow-ups until outstanding commissions are collected. The update leverages existing booking data already in Tern, eliminating the need for advisors to manually re-enter booking records or use separate invoicing tools to chase missing payments.
While other tech platforms also offer commission tracking, Tern positions this update as a broader push to solve long-standing back-office fragmentation across host agencies, sub-agencies, and independent advisors.
“You can now generate the invoice to actually collect what you’re owed, not just track it,” Grace Van Hollebeke, Head of Marketing at Tern, told TMR. “We’re no longer just different from legacy systems. We’re now the only connected platform for the full advisor, agency, and host model that doesn’t require exporting data or bolting on external tools to run the back office. When an advisor enters a booking, it flows straight through to the agency and even the host level.”
Beyond supplier invoicing, the expanded agency back-office suite introduces broader management features for advisor payouts, commission splits, service fees, and membership dues. Tern also announced plans to roll out formal accounting infrastructure—including chart of accounts and general ledger support—with beta testing scheduled for host agency partners TPI and Uniglobe this fall ahead of a wider rollout.
“Agency owners should not have to spend hours chasing records, reconciling payments, or wondering what money is still outstanding,” said David Shull, CEO of Tern. “The goal is not just to replace disconnected tools. It is to help agencies recover more of what they have earned, pay advisors with confidence, and grow with a clearer financial picture of the business.”
Tern will showcase the new back-office capabilities during a product launch webinar on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. ET.
