7 Standout Resorts Opening in the Mexican Caribbean

Kasa Hotel Riviera Maya is one of the new resorts coming to the Mexican Caribbean. 

Bustling tourist hotspots Cancun and Riviera Maya, in Quintana Roo, Mexico, are two of the Caribbean’s hottest hotel markets. More than 6,000 rooms are already in the pipeline for the Cancun hotel zone, which currently has more than 37,000 rooms, according to the National Tourism Promotion Fund (Fonatur).

Here are some of the exciting properties opening in the first and second quarters of this year.

Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Cancun

This March, travelers can “Vacation Like a Star” at the new Planet Hollywood property in Costa Mujeres, complete with authentic Hollywood memorabilia and themed experiences. The property has 322 adult rooms and 566 family rooms, as well as four swimming pools, a lazy river, trampoline park, kids/teens club, and a mini-golf course.

Dreams Vista Cancun Resort & Spa

Arriving in April, this hotel is set in the exclusive gated community of Puerta del Mar, with 416 ocean-view rooms and suites, including 185 connecting family suites. Family-friendly amenities include a rooftop pool, two surf pools, an outdoor theater and climbing wall.

Margaritaville Island Reserve by Karisma Riviera Cancún

Margaritaville will debut its first all-inclusive resort experience in March, bringing its casual-luxe aesthetic inspired by the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle to Puerto Morelos. The intimate beachfront property will have 148 guestrooms, including swim-up rooms and oceanfront suites, the brand’s signature eateries and four swimming pools.

The Fives Hotels will open its hotel-residence concept in Puerto Morelos this summer, boasting a modern Mexican design and 94 one-, two- and three-bedroom suites. A Private Beach Club with cabanas and sun loungers sits along the coast of the Caribbean Sea, and the outdoor infinity pool and restaurants overlook the turquoise-blue waters.

Now Natura Riviera Cancun

Inspired by elements of nature, the 553-room Now Natura Riviera Cancun will arrive in March, featuring a lazy river, exotic fish ponds and The Now Spa by Pevonia, designed to look like the region’s cenotes. Guests can also lounge by the infinity pool complete with a waterslide.

Barceló Maya Riviera

Recently opened, Barceló Maya Riviera – Adults joins the five-star, 850-room complex, made up of Barceló Maya Palace, Barceló Maya Beach, Barceló Maya Caribe, Barceló Maya Colonial, and Barceló Maya Tropical hotels. It also boasts Riviera Maya’s largest convention center.

A change of pace from the massive resorts, KASA Hotel Collection will bring its luxury boutique concept to Puerto Aventuras this June. The intimate property of 47 rooms offers a relaxed yet upscale ambience and personalized service.
