Appetite for Adventure: Intrepid Travel’s Sales in Canada Surge 61% in Record-Breaking Month

Intrepid Travel’s North America expansion strategy is paying off: January was a record-breaking month for sales in Canada.

The tour operator’s bookings in Canada rose 61% year-over-year in January—more than double the growth in the U.S. over the same period. What’s more, Canadians represented nearly 30% of Intrepid customers for that month.

“Travel in 2025 is becoming less about ticking off landmarks and more about personal growth,” said Christian Wolters, president of Canada at Intrepid Travel. “Canadians are craving deeper connections—with the places they visit, the people they meet, and even with themselves.”

Canada’s appetite for Intrepid’s adventure tours reflects the segment’s potential for growth in the short term. According to a recent Intrepid Travel survey, nearly 67% of Canadians plan to travel more this year, with 1 in 4 seeking a healthier, more active lifestyle.

The same survey also found that nearly half of Canadians will prioritize lesser-known destinations over traditional tourist hotspots. In terms of Intrepid’s offerings, Morocco and Japan are trending for both U.S. and Canada—although North Africa in general (Morocco, Egypt) is more popular among Canadians.

“Canadian travel isn’t just back; it’s thriving beyond pre-pandemic levels, fueling economies and supporting millions of jobs worldwide,” said Wolters. “The comeback isn’t happening—it’s already here.”
