Dr. Susanne Etti has been tapped to lead Intrepid Travel’s newly formed Climate Department as the tour operator doubles down on its commitment to its Climate Action Plan.
The new Climate Department was created to accelerate Intrepid’s decarbonisation strategy and oversee the rollout of its $2 million Climate Impact Fund.
“Being mindful of our planet has always been at the heart of Intrepid’s mission, and establishing a dedicated Climate function underscores our commitment to accelerating our decarbonisation roadmap and embedding climate action across every part of our business,” said Meegan Marshall, Chief People and Purpose Officer at Intrepid Travel.
“With more than two decades of global experience, extensive carbon reporting expertise and a strong track record of environmental advocacy, Susanne has already been instrumental in shaping Intrepid’s climate strategy and we look forward to the leadership, insights and innovation she will bring to this new role as we continue to advance our climate ambitions.”
Susanne Etti is a passionate champion of climate consciousness and is widely recognized as an industry leader in helping drive the travel sector toward a lower-carbon future. In 2023, she was named to the BBC’s prestigious 100 Women of Influence list and is a sought-after speaker and conference panellist. She also mentors through Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project and brings more than two decades of leadership experience across Australia, Europe, Southeast Asia and South America.
The new department will be led by Dr. Etti in the role of General Manager, Climate, reporting to Meegan Marshall, Chief People and Purpose Officer. Dr. Etti will be responsible for implementing Intrepid’s decarbonisation roadmap, allocating the Climate Impact Fund, overseeing carbon and risk reporting, and driving climate advocacy across the business and the wider travel industry.
Intrepid is also recruiting a Decarbonisation Manager, alongside a Purpose Carbon Analyst and Environmental Analyst, strengthening the company’s focus on robust measurement, reporting, and assured carbon reduction outcomes.
Dr Etti’s promotion to General Manager Climate from her previous role as Environmental Impact Manager took effect on 7 January. She is based at Intrepid’s global headquarters in Melbourne, Australia.
