Intrepid Travel Signs $500K Deal to Support Indigenous Tourism in Canada

Adventure specialist Intrepid Travel has signed a CA$500,000 deal with the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) to support the growth and promotion of Indigenous tourism throughout its Canadian itineraries.

The ITAC is a national industry association that supports the promotion and development of authentic Indigenous tourism within Canada. The association’s members include Indigenous-owned and controlled businesses, comprising First Nations, Inuit, and Métis across the country.

Through the partnership, Intrepid will increase the number of Indigenous experiences offered through its Canadian itineraries. By the end of 2026, 75% of its tours in Canada will include at least one Indigenous experience, and the tour operator will work towards 100% inclusion across all tours in Canada.

To accomplish this goal, Intrepid will invest CA$100,000 annually in IATC’s work over a five-year period. This funding will be split between development and promotion, with CA$50,000 being allocated to the Indigenous Tourism of Canada Destination Fund and a minimum of CA$50,000 annually into promotion through initiatives such as media trips and advertising.

“The vision is simple. Every traveller who visits Canada with Intrepid should leave with a deeper connection and understanding of Indigenous culture,” said Christian Wolters, president of Canada at Intrepid Travel.

The investment is part of Intrepid Travel’s wider expansion plans for Canada, which include broadening the range of experiences offered in the country.

“For over 30 years, Intrepid Travel has used small-group adventures to empower communities around the world,” said Wolters. “Now, as we embark on our biggest expansion in Canada, we’re excited to help travellers connect more deeply with Indigenous cultures here and ensure tourism creates meaningful benefits for communities.”
