Starting this month, Regent Seven Seas Cruises has switched to an “elegant casual” dress code in the evenings, and guests are now free to wear “refined” denim and dress sneakers after 6 p.m. in all public areas, including restaurants.
According to the cruise line, the change reflects “evolving guest preferences,” and is “part of our commitment to staying focused on what today’s luxury travelers value most.”
The line defines refined denim as jeans that “are stylish and free of rips or distressing.” Sneakers must be clean, polished, and in neutral or classic tones.
Collared tops for men and blouses or sweaters for women are still required, and t-shirts, baseball caps, shorts, athletic shoes, flip flops, and bathrobes are still not permitted in any public spaces after 6 p.m.
Guests may continue to dress in formal wear if they desire, but it is no longer required at any point during the cruise.
The looser dress code is part of an industry-wide trend toward more relaxed cruise dress codes. From Cunard to Silversea Cruises to Crystal, even the most traditionally formal cruise lines have relaxed their dress codes over the past several years to cater the changing desires of the younger, affluent cruiser.
