Watch: Usain Bolt Stars in His First Official Ad for Jamaica
by Daniel McCarthyThe first official ad featuring Usain Bolt, one of the country’s most famous athletes, has been launched.
Bolt, who still holds the world records in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints, was appointed Global Tourism Ambassador in May. The new ad is the first major marketing campaign centered on the track star.
In the campaign, Bolt tells travelers that in Jamaica, “We do big things here. Come see for yourself.”
The Jamaica Tourist Board said in its May announcement that Bolt had been the country’s “unofficial ambassador” for so long that it was time to make it official.
“Usain Bolt has been Jamaica’s unofficial ambassador for years through his extraordinary athletic achievements and magnetic personality,” said Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett. “This appointment formalizes what the world already knows – that Usain embodies the spirit, resilience, and excellence that defines Jamaica. His influence extends far beyond the track, and we’re excited to channel that power toward building our nation’s future.”
The ad is a boon for Jamaica, as Bolt is not only one of the most famous Jamaicans of all time, but also one of the world’s most famous athletes.
Jamaica is also following some good news from earlier in the year, when the U.S. State Department lowered the official travel advisory level for the country after months of campaigning. Jamaica is now at the same advisory level as countries like France, the U.K., Italy, Belgium, and others—a welcome move for a country that relies heavily on U.S. tourism.
