ASTA Asks Agents To Write Congress About ‘Blacklist’
by Richard D'Ambrosio /In its efforts to protect travel agencies from an overtime rule that could lead to higher salary expenses, the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) is asking members and others to write to their Senators and Representatives to support legislation to permanently remove agents from a ‘blacklist.’
This week, ASTA members began receiving an Action Alert urging them to write to their member of Congress to sign on to the Travel Agent Retail Fairness Act (H.R. 2515).
The bill, introduced in May by Rep. Francis Rooney (R-FL), would remove travel agencies from a list of industries that prevents them from utilizing an exemption from federal overtime rules designed for retail businesses. H.R. 2515 currently has 10 bipartisan cosponsors.
