New Hotel X Toronto Urban Resort Opening Soon

by Kelsy Chauvin  April 11, 2017

There’s a new kind of accommodation debuting in Toronto this year that may redefine the city’s hotel experience. Hotel X Toronto is an “urban resort” that’s been several years in the making, and will soon accept its first guests as the newest member of the Library Hotel Collection.

Located on Toronto’s west end in the Exhibition Place area, Hotel X Toronto will stand 30 stories tall just off the shore of Lake Ontario. It’s an expansive property that encompasses the hotel tower, along with the restored, historic Stanley Barracks, and a 90,000-square-foot sports and spa complex called TEN X TORONTO.

The new luxury hotel will introduce a mix of 404 rooms, 39 of them suites, plus seven restaurants, bars and lounges. Among them will be a high-end Mediterranean restaurant, two more casual restaurants (including the Stanley Barracks Gastro Pub and Beer Garden), juice bar, Starbucks, a self-serve market and a Library Hotel signature private club lounge.

The Peregrine SkyBar will serve as the hotel’s “crown jewel,” filling out the top three stories with indoor/outdoor dining, drinks, as well as a 50-foot-long swimming pool on floor 28 that’s part indoor, part outdoor, and heated for different seasons.

From its location about 1.5 miles from downtown Toronto (a 10-minute drive), Hotel X will offer striking city views unlike anywhere else in the city. Multiple outdoor terraces, high ceilings, and oversized windows will maximize those skyline and lake vistas for guests staying at the hotel, or enjoying its eateries and lounges.

The TEN X athletic facility will add a sprawling health and wellness complex to the area, and be open to hotel guests and private members. Among its many features are tennis courts, squash courts, state-of-the-art weight and cardio equipment, fitness classes, physiotherapy, golf simulators, children’s play center, second-floor rooftop pool, and full-service spa.

Meeting spaces are key to the new property, so the second floor occupies about 6,700 square feet of gathering spaces with 11 meeting rooms. Two ballrooms also will open on site, as well as outdoor space that can accommodate up to 2,000 guests.

Aiming to serve Toronto’s thriving film-festival travelers and entertainment industry, Hotel X has both a 243-seat cinema and a 56-seat screening room.

The hotel aims to earn LEED certification, thanks to sustainability measures integrated by its New York–based architecture team at Stephen B. Jacobs Group. The firm, along with Andi Pepper Interior Design, created spacious guest rooms that start at 580 square feet, and get larger in size up to 2,600 square feet for the largest presidential suite.

Local Torontonians and international travelers alike are eager for their first looks at the hotel, which cost an estimated $175 million to develop since its 2013 groundbreaking.

It is currently slated to check in its first guests in fall 2017.
