JW Marriott this week opened its newest property in Madrid, the JW Marriott Hotel Madrid.

The hotel is the first JW Marriott in Spain joining more than 100 JW Marriott hotels in more than 25 countries worldwide. It is located in the heart of the city, in Madrid’s Canalejas zone, not far from Plaza Mayor and next to Puerta del Sol.

Marriott says that the 139-room hotel was designed as an urban sanctuary, giving guests a chance to “reflect and recharge” in the middle of the city. That includes a fully equipped fitness room and wellness area, yoga mats on demand, and a bath menu with playlists and customize light setups that turn each bathroom into a private spa experience.

The suites on the upper floors sport large terraces with views of Madrid below.

Reflecting the city’s history, the hotel also has a heavy focus on perfume and scents—each guest is welcomed with a traditional violet or rosemary-scented tea upon check-in and guests can then choose from one of five scents to be placed in their personal wardrobe.

Each guest will be able to read about the city’s aroma history via a book on the bedside table and, in the Lobby, there is an exhibition featuring antique perfume bottles, books, and essences.

For food and drink on-site, JW Marriott Madrid has partnered with Michelin-star chef Mario Sandoval to bring a dining concept called QU to the property. Marriott says QU is the “ultimate expression in refined Spanish flavor.

QU also allows guest to “continue their scent journey”—meals are served on dishes inspired by perfume containers and its cocktail menu highlights local ingredients and aromas such as chocolate, rosemary, and lemon.

“JW Marriott is at the forefront of the evolution of luxury travel, placing equal importance on mindfulness and well-being as we do on indulgence and comfort,” said Bruce Rohr, Global Brand Leader, JW Marriott.

“With these brand pillars in mind, we are thrilled to bring the JW Marriott brand to Spain. JW Marriott Hotel Madrid is an ideal reflection of who we are and what we represent, from its thoughtful design to the bespoke programming crafted with guests’ holistic wellness in mind.”
