Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa, an adults-only property part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, is now open.
The all-inclusive resort is in the up-and-coming Miches area of the Dominican Republic, surrounded by pristine beaches on one side and dense rainforest on the other. With 500 suites, many boasting ocean views and swim-out access, the property offers a significant new product for intimate vacations on the Caribbean Sea.
“It’s a celebration of romance, wellbeing, and the unique spirit of Playa Esmeralda,” said Angel Medina, the resort’s general manager. “Every detail, from the design of our suites to textures, colors, and curated experiences throughout the property, is inspired by the richness of this region.”

Secrets Playa Esmeralda has a diverse array of 11 dining venues and seven bars. Meanwhile, the Secrets Spa features hydrotherapy circuit, sauna, whirlpool, cold plunge, bridal suite, and an exclusive Master Spa Cabin. There is also a robust fitness center and sporting facilities, including a beach volleyball area, tennis court, and water sports equipment. Available activities include aerobics, dance and Spanish classes, kayaking, snorkeling, and introductory scuba diving lessons in the pool.
The resort will offer off-site excursions, such as a mountaintop swing experience at Montaña Redonda, mangrove kayaking in Los Haitises National Park, hiking to the Salto La Jalda waterfall, and seasonal whale watching in Bahía de Samaná.
Secrets has also partnered with Promiches, a local sustainable development organization, a protected sea turtle nest along the resort’s beachfront. This will give guests an opportunity to see hatchlings release on the beach.
In September, the neighboring Dreams Playa Esmerelda will open as the family-friendly counterpart to the new Secrets. At the heart of the resort complex will the Public Square, a shared, village-style hub featuring dining, entertainment, and shopping that guests of both resorts can enjoy.
Dreams Playa Esmerelda is slated to feature another 500 rooms, plus a waterpark, Explorer’s Club for Kids, Core Zone Teen Club, 10 restaurants, and seven bars.
