Pleasant Holidays and Journese on Monday announced a major addition to its U.S. tour portfolio—the historic Grand Hotel Mackinac Island.

The hotel is located on Mackinac Island, a small land mass within Lake Huron between Michigan’s upper and lower peninsulas that allows for no cars and is only accessible by air or passenger ferryboat from Mackinaw City or St. Ignace.

The hotel, a member of Historic Hotels of America, traces its roots back before the turn of the 19th century, opening its doors in 1887. It has hosted several U.S. presidents including Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, and George H.W. Bush, along with Mark Twain, who frequented the property during his speaking tours.

Pleasant Holidays and Journese are now offering instant reservations and online bookings for the hotel’s 2023 season, which runs from May to October. They will be the only tour operators to offer access to the 388-room hotel.

“This National Historic Landmark hotel is stately and ornate, steeped in history and a great addition to our hotel portfolio,” said Jack E. Richards, President, and CEO. “Each visit begins with a horse-drawn carriage ride to the hotel and features wholesome relaxation, outdoor recreation and genuine hospitality.”

The hotel is one of the best hotels in the world according to both Travel + Leisure and Conde Nast. Included in its accommodations are one- and two-bedroom suites, each with views of the surrounding Straits of Mackinac. There is also a segment of signature suites, which are decorated to reflect the lives of historical figures and events, and a separate Masco Cottage, a four-bedroom cottage with its own private walkway and wrap-around deck.

Outside of those accommodations, Grand Hotel Mackinac Island also offers afternoon tea in the lobby, golf on The Jewel course, or drinks with a panoramic view at the Cupola Bar.
