New Opening: citizenM’s Debut Chicago Hotel
by Daniel McCarthy /citizenM is set to open citizen Chicago Downtown, a new hotel that sits within a 47-story tower at 300 North Michigan Avenue that also includes 289 residential units and some retail space, on Sept. 21.
The hotel adds 280 rooms across 10 floors to the heart of downtown Chicago, just a block away from Chicago’s Riverwalk and a short walk to Millennium Park. Each room includes the signature citizen XL king-sized bed, an HD widescreen TV, free WiFi, a rain shower, an iPad for room controls, and more.
Outside of its guest rooms, the hotel also offers a 24/7 gym and three different society meeting rooms that can be booked for half and full days to both guests and the public. For food and drink, it also offers some signature citizen spaces, including the canteen, a 24/7 grab-and-go food and drink outlet, and the fourth-floor Living Room.
The hotel’s outside mural was designed by Dutch artist Daniel Straalen van will, but its whole exterior was crafted to be a gigantic Chicago tribute, with Chicago native Nina Chanel Abney tasked with transforming its 2,000 sq. ft. terrace and entrance walls.
“As one of the most important markets in the US, it was critical for citizenM to have a presence in Chicago,” said Robin Chadha, Chief Marketing Officer, “the property will add a significant new tower and a pop of color to the world-famous Magnificent Mile, while the interiors were curated with a selection of artwork by Chicago natives to give the hotel an atmosphere that embodies the city.”
Since launching in 2008, citizenM has expanded to 29 hotels in 18 cities including London, Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Taipei, and Kuala Lumpur. One of its latest openings was a new hotel in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood, which first welcomed guests this past June.
