Porter Launches First of Four Sun Routes from YOW

Porter’s Ottawa base.

Porter Airlines is kicking off its winter schedule from Ottawa International Airport (YOW) this week, enabling direct access for National Capital Region inhabitants to four southern destinations.

Beginning this week, travellers can fly non-stop from Ottawa to Oranjestad, Aruba. Flights to  Montego Bay, Jamaica, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, and Los Cabos, Mexico, also begin in coming weeks. Porter is the only airline offering nonstop service from Ottawa to Aruba, Los Cabos and Turks and Caicos.

These flights are in addition to existing southern service to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Nassau, Grand Cayman, and Liberia, as well as five destinations in Florida. In total, Porter will operate nearly 600 flights to Mexico, the Caribbean and Costa Rica from Ottawa this winter season. This represents an increase of greater than 80 per cent compared to the previous year.

“This is an unprecedented variety of flight options for National Capital Region residents looking for winter escapes,” said Edmond Eldebs, senior vice president and chief commercial officer, Porter Airlines. “Porter’s network continues to expand for travellers, with more non-stop flights to destinations where they want to fly.”

“More direct flights from Ottawa mean more choices for residents, more visitors discovering our city, and more opportunities for local businesses,” said Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe.

“I’m pleased to see Porter Airlines continuing to invest in Ottawa. It’s also great for Ottawa residents to have more opportunities to travel to the destinations they want without having to connect through another city.”

New services from Ottawa begin on the following schedule:
