IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa, located on the Honduras Bay Island of Roatán, opened last week. According to IHG, it is the first internationally-branded hospitality offering on the island.

The new western Caribbean resort officially began welcoming guests on Oct. 10. It is nestled on West Bay Beach and offers visitors a luxurious stay with access to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.

“We are thrilled to introduce Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa to this incredible island paradise,” said Carlos Lopez, general manager of Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa. “Our team is dedicated to providing an unforgettable guest experience that celebrates the natural beauty, culture, and warmth of Roatán. We look forward to being a cherished part of the destination’s vibrant tapestry and creating memories for both locals and global visitors alike.”

Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa has a total of 119 guest rooms, suites, and condos, as well as four restaurants and bars, a high-end spa, and close to 6,000 square-feet of meeting and event spaces.

California-based Theresa Fatino Design collaborated with Kimpton’s design team to create a special interior feel inside the hotel that includes local artisan artworks and furniture.

Caribbean-based Lane Pettigrew Associates was the architect behind the building and created all west-facing rooms that allow for stunning sunset views and also include private balcony plunge pools, outdoor bungalows, and private showers. The even more luxurious suites – the Spa Suites and the Presidential Suite – have soaking tubs and more private amenities.

Executive Chef Israel Navarro manages the resort’s four eateries. The flagship restaurant, Alera, blends Mediterranean cuisine with locally sourced ingredients. Vos Café & Bar offers coffee and cocktails, while Sea Cat and The Drop Off are beach bars with casual California-inspired dishes.

Kao Kamasa Spa is a 10,500-square-foot oasis of tranquility housing six individual treatment rooms, two outdoor couple treatment suites, an outdoor Temazcal-Jaguar room, and several pools and fountains. This includes a private infinity pool with a glass bottom looking directly below into the Iron Shore coral reef.

In addition to the spa, the resort will offer activities such as yoga sessions, healing workshops, kayaking, snorkeling, and more, as well as regular live entertainment at the dining spots.

IHG is currently hosting a Grand Opening Offer for those who book at Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa by the end of 2023 to save up to 30% on their stays scheduled from now through June 30, 2024.
