Thompson Rome, a 69-room boutique hotel, has just opened steps from the city’s most iconic attractions. This marks the Italy debut for Thompson Hotels, Hyatt’s brand of sophisticated, polished properties catering to both leisure and business travelers.
The hotel is set within a reimagined landmark on Via delle Botteghe Oscure, a significant street in Italy’s post-war history, located steps from Piazza Venezia and in walking distance of the Roman Forum, Pantheon, and Colosseum. Within its walls, the hotel offers a taste of Italian history and culture, with preserved architecture and cultural programming.
“Rome has such a strong identity, so we wanted Thompson Rome to start with the city itself,” said Amar Lalvani, Chief Creative Officer, Hyatt Corporation and President & Creative Director, The Lifestyle Group, Hyatt. “The building, the neighborhood, the food, the people and the way Romans live all shaped the hotel. The goal was to create a Thompson hotel that feels at home in Rome, a hotel travelers want to discover and Romans want to come back to.”
Thompson Rome has kept some elements of the original 1940s home, including a sculptural wall, inlaid flooring, and sweeping marble staircase that’s been meticulously restored. About a third of the hotel’s accommodations are suites, including Junior Suites, Suites with patios or terraces, and the 104-square-metre Thompson Suite with 80-square-metre private terrace.
The property also offers a strong art program and dining options. There are three food and beverage venues: LYVE Restaurant, LYVE Rooftop, and the Lobby Lounge, offering everything from morning espresso to refined cuisine. Both contemporary and historic artwork are featured throughout the hotel’s public spaces and guest rooms, and the property will host a rotating artist-in-residence program with the local arts community.
“Rome reveals itself over time, through its neighborhoods, its art and, most importantly, its people. At Thompson Rome, we want guests to feel connected to that side of the city from the moment they arrive,” said Arturo Gomez, general manager. “Whether it’s discovering the artists represented throughout the hotel, sharing an aperitivo on the rooftop or simply asking a member of our team where they would spend an afternoon, our hope is that the hotel becomes a starting point for experiencing Rome in a more personal way. And for those of us who live here, we want it to become a place you return to again and again.”
