InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is continuing with its goal to expand Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants globally – which IHG acquired in 2014 for $430 million – as the company eyes a bigger share of the $60 billion luxury market.

The boutique luxury brand will debut in the UK, beginning with London’s Bloomsbury neighborhood later this year and Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow in 2019. Following IHG’s agreement with Covivio (formerly Foncière des Régions), the current Principal hotels will be rebranded under the Kimpton flag.

As IHG accelerates its growth in Greater China and Southeast Asia, the brand will also launch in Japan in 2020. Located in Tokyo’s vibrant Shinjuku district, the 162-room Kimpton Tokyo Shinjuku will feature a “bold, playful design,” and offer amenities such as a wellness studio, a multi-function chapel, and three locally inspired restaurants. There will also be three meeting spaces that accommodate up to 300 people.

In the region, other properties in the pipeline include the 50-villa Kimpton Bali opening next year; the Kimpton Shanghai Jing’an, with 150 guestrooms and 120 villas, and the 251-room Kimpton Resort Sanya Haitang Bay, both opening in 2021.

IHG opened its first international Kimpton in 2017 with the Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam. There are currently 66 Kimpton hotels open globally, with another 20 in the pipeline, including the Kimpton Paris, slated to open in 2020, and Kimpton Frankfurt, due to open in 2023.
