IHG Plots Kimpton, Regent Expansion
by Doug Gollan /InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will expand its Kimpton brand to Mexico and Thailand for the first time with new properties in Mexico City and Bangkok, the company announced during ILTM North America on Monday.
Scheduled to open in 2020, the 349-room Kimpton Bangkok will be located in the heart of the Langsuan area, and nestled right beside Lumpini Park, one of the largest public parks in the city. It will be the brand’s second property across the Southeast Asia and Korea region.
Kimpton will also make its debut in Spain with the Kimpton Barcelona, opening in the second half of 2019. It will feature 156 stylish rooms, a lobby lounge, an all-day dining restaurant and 250 square metres of event space.
Since acquiring the boutique hotel company in 2015, IHG opened its first hotel outside North America last year in Amsterdam and is rapidly expanding. The current pipeline includes Paris, Shanghai, Taipei, Sanya, Bali, London, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
IHG also said it plans to increase its recently acquired Regent International brand to 40 locations from the current five hotels.
For its InterContinental brand, a flagship is due to open in Shanghai in the fourth quarter. There are currently more than 60 InterContinental hotels expected to open over the next five years.
