The New Virgin Hotel in Glasgow Opens for Booking
by Daniel McCarthy /The newest property from Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Hotels is now open for booking.
Virgin Hotels Glasgow will officially open on December 1 in the heart of Glasgow on the northern banks of the River Clyde and just a short walk from the city’s King George V Bridge.
In total, it will offer 240 rooms, which Virgin calls “Chambers,” across its 15 floors.
Each room will feature the brand’s signature layout that includes two spaces—The Dressing Room, which is a full vanity, closet, makeup desk, extra-large shower, and closet; and The Lounge, the living area with the bed, mini-fridge, television, and more.
The property will also offer a selection of suites including a signature suite called Sir Richard’s Flat, named for Virgin’s founder. That suite is a retro-luxury design with a personal bar, games tables, and velvet sofa. Just like a lot of suites named after Branson in other Virgin offerings, this suite caters to those who want to socialize.
There is also a Lady B’s Flat, named for Branson’s wife Joan, which is highlighted by floor and wall tiling inspired by alabaster, and a Moroccan-inspired Kasbah Tamadot Suite.
For food and drink, Virgin Hotel Glasgow will also include Commons Club, the brand’s flagship restaurant and bar; Highyard, a co-working and dining space; the Funny Library Coffee Shop; and Rock, a late-night bar.
“We’re thrilled to share our second hotel in the UK in a completely different city, Glasgow,” said James Bermingham, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Hotels. “We truly believe the hotel will be the ideal hub for visitors wanting to soak up this vibrant city while enjoying authentic experiences.”
The other U.K. hotel for Scotland is Virgin Hotels Edinburgh, which opened earlier this year. That was the first Virgin property outside of the U.S. Its U.S. portfolio right now includes hotels in Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Nashville, and New Orleans. More Virgin Hotels are currently planned for New York (December 2022) and Miami (2025).
