Thompson Hotels, Hyatt’s boutique hotel brand, celebrated the opening of its newest hotel this week, Thompson Houston in Texas’ Space City.

The hotel is located in the city’s downtown, overlooking Buffalo Bayou Park, a 25-minute drive from George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William Hobby Airport.

The hotel offers 172 guestrooms, including 34 suites, all with floor-to-ceiling windows. Thompson said the rooms are designed to give guests a “residential feel” that evokes the “spirit of old Texas,” with all custom-made furnishings and big en-suite bathrooms with marble vanities and custom wall treatments.

Outside of the guestrooms, and the seventh-floor lobby, the hotel includes one of the city’s largest outdoor rooftops that hosts a cabana-boarded infinity pool, a 2,500 sq. ft. greenspace, and views of the surrounding downtown. The rooftop is available for outdoor weddings and other events, too.

Speaking of events, the hotel also includes more than 17,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor event space that Thompson says can accommodate up to 800 people. That includes an 8,000 sq. ft. ballroom, a pre-function space with floor-to-ceiling windows, and customizable breakout rooms.

Thompson Houston also offers a 160-acre park at its doorstep and complimentary Thompson Houston-branded Bluejay Electric Bicycles that guests can take on nearby trails.

For food and drink, guests can head to Sol 7, the hotel’s all-day dining outlet located off of its lobby. Two more restaurants will open soon—TableOne Hospitality: Chardon, a French eatery that is expected to open in summer 2024; along with Buck 40, an upscale dinner outlet opening in fall 2024. Two more restaurants are being planned for the property, too, including a modern Mexican steakhouse.

There’s also a coffee shop called Maven Coffee Company, the first brick-and-mortar location of a local chain that Houston Astros baseball player Lance McCullers Jr founded.
