The New Pendry Hotel in Park City Expands Summer Offerings After Ski Season
by Bill Fink /The Pendry Hotel in Park City, Utah opened in late 2022 as “the next evolution of mountain hotel,” as described by its director of sales Chris Lawing. Located at the base of the Canyons ski resort in a vacation area outside of downtown, the hotel combines upscale luxury with expansive views in a convenient village setting. The Pendry is part of the Montage-owned conglomerate of high-end hotels across the country with a focus on a younger, active clientele.
The Pendry is a fully-owned residence property, with 175 rooms in 153 condo units spread over a three-building footprint in a scenic spot amidst the mountains. The units range from hotel-style rooms (connectible to multi-room residences), to studio suites with kitchenettes, and spacious 3600 square foot two-bedroom residences complete with large entertainment areas and family bunk bed rooms. The hotel rooms come in variants with king beds or two double queens.
The Pendry’s rooms, as well as its common spaces, have a contemporary design of muted brown and beige tones, giving the hotel a cool, relaxing feel. “You won’t find any deer heads on walls here,” said Lawing, noting that the property made a conscious decision to move away from the old-time bare-log lodge-style ski properties of the past. Modern art lines the walls around the complex to complete the vibe.
Room rates at the Pendry begin at about $336 per night ($415 including taxes and fees) for a “resort view” King (not looking at the mountains), while two-bedroom suites begin in the $1100 range (with taxes). The shoulder season of April and May should see these lower rates, while busy summer holiday weekends should be booked far in advance to try to avoid premium rates.
The Pendry’s on-site facilities and amenities separate this resort from many hotel-only type properties in the area. Within the three-building complex, the Pendry features fine dining at Kita, a Japanese steak-and-sushi restaurant, along with traditional Mexican dishes (and tequila flights) at the Dos Olas Cantina.
The Pendry’s rooftop Pool House facility not only has a heated pool and hot tub, but also serves up light meals and has a full cocktail bar. The lobby Apres Pendry bar and appetizer menu provides a lively spot après ski, or after a summer hiking day to meet with friends and boast about the day’s activities. (Though it should be noted the bar closes promptly at 10PM, a nod to Utah’s strict alcohol regulations). While Pendry’s home in Canyons Village is remotely located from the shops, restaurants, and bars of downtown Park City, free shuttles are available to take guests on the about 10-minute drive.
The Pendry also works as a welcoming property for meetings and events. With 8,000 square feet of dividable meeting rooms, the hotel can host corporate conferences as well as weddings and other family events. The Pendry’s currently closed-to-the-public pizza parlor serves as an auxiliary events room for private dinners and other group activities.
The Pendry’s amenities also include a spa and fitness center, the spa with six treatment rooms, and signature mountain skin care treatments. For families with kids, the Pendry offers its signature Paintbox Children’s Program with dedicated staff and activities, as well as free nightly s’mores roasting sessions at outdoor firepits. The Pendry is even dog friendly, with some amenities tailored toward four-legged guests. And active visitors will appreciate the on-site location of Compass Sports, a full mountain activity outfitter, with skis in the winter and bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards for summer travelers.
As ski season winds to a close, Pendry is focusing on a busy menu of summer activities at the hotel and around Park City. The Pendry is already gearing up for the big annual 4th of July Forum Fest that takes place in Canyons Village in and surrounding the hotel. The multi-day festival includes food, drinks, live music, fireworks, and drone shows, with many activities taking place in the plaza just outside the hotel.
For summer visitors looking for adventure, the Pendry is offering an expanded set of activities available through its Compass Sports partner. The latest equipment and instructors are available for guests interested in activities ranging from horseback riding to golfing, mountain biking, rock climbing, and adventure parks. For visitors interested in trips further afield, Compass Expeditions offers day trips to nearby National Parks with UTV tours, e-bike rides, and cultural tours to view historic villages and ancient petroglyphs.
