Hyatt’s Alila Brand to Make Japan Debut in Hakone

Hyatt’s Alila brand will make its Japan debut with an immersive resort in Hakone, a popular hot spring destination.

Alila Sengokuhara Hakone is scheduled to open in 2028 and offer a new luxury retreat within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Hyatt is partnering with Fujita Corporation for the project.

“With 19 properties globally, including 13 in Asia, we are excited to announce plans to introduce the Alila brand to Japan,” said David Udell, Group President, Asia Pacific, Hyatt. “We are grateful to President Okumura of Fujita Corporation and everyone else involved in bringing the Alila vision to this market. The debut of the Alila brand in Japan will expand travel choices for both domestic and international guests, offering experiences that reflect the brand’s deep connection to culture and the environment.”

The new resort will have minimalist architecture and design that blends seamlessly with the mountainous setting. It will feature 60 guest rooms, including 11 suites, all with their own private natural hot spring bath. The onsen experience will extend to the spa and a yoga deck that will be immersed in the surrounding landscape.

Hakone’s DNA, from its art to its nature to its rituals, will all be incorporated into the resort, which will also offer Alila Moments, the brand’s signature cultural programming for guests to immerse themselves in the destination.

News of Alila Sengokuhara Hakone comes after Hilton also announced it would open a luxury resort in Hakone, an LXR Hotels & Resorts property, in 2028.
