Hurricane Irma: Status Update on Hotels and Resorts in the Caribbean, Florida

Here are new updates on some of the properties impacted by Hurricane Irma.
Florida Keys
Hurricane Irma battered the low-lying Florida Keys, closing off the destination to visitors as it begins recovery. A large portion of the islands remain without power and water.
The Courtyard by Marriott Marathon Florida Keys posted on its Facebook it sustained little damage and is “housing First Responders, FPL and FEMA Service Personnel, but will soon, again be open for guests.”
Waldorf Astoria Resorts in Key West, Casa Marina and The Reach, will reopen their doors on Oct. 13th.

Orlando
The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando said it did not experience any significant property damage.
Walt Disney World parks are open, although water parks will not reopen until later in the week.
Both Universal Studios Orlando theme parks are open and fully operational.
Fort Lauderdale
Hotels along the Fort Lauderdale coastline have reported no damage and are in the process of reopening by the end of this weekend once power is restored, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau said.
Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort are both open for business.
The Diplomat Beach Resort Hollywood Curio Collection by Hilton will be fully operational, to include its 10 food and beverage outlets, by Sat., Sept. 16.
The Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale said the resort did not sustain any substantial damage and it’s now open.
The Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina opened its doors earlier in the week.
Miami
The Loews Miami Beach Hotel is welcoming guests. The hotel said it did not sustain any major damage during Irma.
The InterContinental Miami also reported minimal damage and has returned to normal operations.
The Hilton Miami Downtown said it has “re-opened our doors and are welcoming guests back to our hotel.”
Fontainebleau Miami said it “was able to withstand the brunt of Irma” and is in great condition. The hotel has reopened with a majority of its services available but expects to be fully operational in the coming days.
The W South Beach, JW Marriott Marquis Miami, the Four Seasons Hotel Miami, and the Mandarin Oriental, Miami have all reopened.
The St. Regis Bal Harbour has reopened.
Antigua and Barbuda
Carlisle Bay Resort will reopen on Oct. 15.
Curtain Bluff is still scheduled to reopen on Oct. 28, as previously planned following a six-month closure for a renovation.
Sandals Grande Antigua sustained superficial damage. Due to the timing of the previously announced closure for resort maintenance, the resort will remain closed and reopen Dec. 20.
Bahamas
A majority of Nassau and Paradise Island hotels received no damage. While many remained open, others are resuming normal operations.
British Virgin Islands
Scrub Island, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, is closed until further notice.
The Sugar Mill Hotel suffered some damage and expects to reopen Oct. 14.
Dominican Republic
All of AMResorts, Riu Hotels and Barceló Resorts properties in the country are fully operational.
Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana is fully operational and welcoming guests as well.
St Martin
La Samanna will remain closed for the remainder of the year, while Esmeralda Resort reported 70 percent of the property is destroyed. The reopening of La Playa Orient Bay is postponed until further notice.
The Riu Palace St. Martin said its infrastructure has been severely affected.
Due to “extensive damage,” the Summit Resort will remain closed.
Westin Dawn Beach also suffered significant damage and is closed until further notice, according to Marriott.
Turks and Caicos
The Ocean Club Resorts on Turks and Caicos reported no structural damage and said its reservations will remain unaffected.
